Signs of Lying

Please note that not always do people show the appropriate signs for lying, these are only a few though they do not necessarily mean that someone is lying but it does increase the chance of deception. If you do use this for the purpose of catching a lie than please only use it as grounds to keep looking for more evidence.

· Many times a person lying will make little or no eye contact.

· May use few hand movements and may rarely touch their chest with an open hand, many times will touch around their face but usually around the mouth but contact to this area is limited.

· May try to appear casual by shrugging.

· Timing between gestures and words are off. Such as if the person makes a statement but the emotion of the statement follows after.

· Expressions may be limited to the mouth area.

· Words are not you're and it's are not shortened, if a person says words like you're as you are.

· The person may try to avoid the subject where many people that are innocent will keep on the subject.

· An accused person will try to shift their head or body away from an accuser.

· An accused person will also usually place an object between them and an accuser such as a glass or pillow.

· When thinking the person being accused will shift their eyes to the top left of their eyes if they are lying while shifting them to the top right of their eyes if they are trying to remember.

· A liar may repeat a question in their answers, if a mother asks if their child did their homework and the child is lying the child will be more likely to say "Yes, I did my homework" rather than just a "yes".
